Garden Classroom and Library

Introducing the Garden Library at Bothy Gardens

At Bothy Gardens, where nature and heritage converge, we are excited to announce our newest project: a Garden Library that promises to be a beacon of learning, creativity, and well-being. This initiative not only revives the historical concept of gardeners' libraries proposed by John Claudius Loudon in the 19th century but also infuses it with modern sensibilities and Turtlewings' philosophy of designing for wonder and well-being.

A Blend of Indoor and Outdoor Spaces

Our Garden Library will be a harmonious blend of indoor and outdoor spaces, seamlessly merging into each other to create an immersive and inspiring environment. The indoor area will be adorned with walls and walls of books, objects, tools, and plants, providing endless resources for gardeners, artists, and curious minds. A kiln and a small kitchen will add to the functionality of the space, making it ideal for hands-on workshops and classes.

A Sanctuary for Learning and Creativity

The outdoor area will feature raised beds of plants that can be used in various creative endeavors, from botanical crafts to culinary arts. A cutting garden will provide an abundance of fresh flowers, while numerous spots to perch, create, paint, draw, or simply think will be scattered throughout. This space will be situated in the back northeast corner of the walled garden, providing a tranquil sanctuary for all who visit.

A Unique Experience for Visitors

Additionally, the Garden Library will include a one-bed studio that can be rented by guests. This unique accommodation will allow visitors to fully immerse themselves in the beauty and serenity of Bothy Gardens, offering a perfect retreat for those seeking inspiration or a quiet escape.

Our Vision and Timeline

We are currently drawing up sketches inspired by our vision and hope to begin offering classes as early as spring 2025, although the building itself might be completed a bit later. The Garden Library will complement the old greenhouse, which is set to become Turtlewings' studio, located in the middle of the garden. Together, these spaces will form the heart of Bothy Gardens creative education vision, inspiring a deeper connection to nature and a celebration of creativity.

Embracing the Turtlewings Philosophy

The Garden Library at Bothy Gardens is designed to embody the Turtlewings philosophy of designing for wonder and well-being. By creating spaces that inspire and nurture the mind, body, and spirit, we aim to cultivate a sense of joy and fulfillment in all who visit. Whether you're a seasoned gardener, an aspiring artist, or simply someone seeking a moment of peace, the Garden Library will offer something special for everyone.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project as we bring the Garden Library to life at Bothy Gardens. We look forward to welcoming you to this enchanting space where tradition meets innovation, and creativity flourishes.
