A Hands-On Creative Exploration Space for ALL in the museum!

In 2009 Turtlewings won a design competition to design a creative lab for Bozar. The vision for the 100m2 space captured what the museum was looking for. The design included various labs that would cater to the needs of the museum's educational staff and the general public. It had a dark room studio lab, an open space lab for presentations and theatre, an outdoor lab for movement and physical discovery, and small flexible labs for other projects.

The design included a curved wooden stage structure for performances or lectures, adding elegance and sophistication to the space. The cafe eating area that looked outdoors with umbrellas and had a preparation area for visitors to cook was a great touch and added to the overall ambience of the space.

Another notable design feature was the wet and dry art areas, which allowed various artistic activities to be conducted in the space. The dome structure for quiet small meetings and storytelling was also a clever addition, providing a calm space for visitors to gather and exchange ideas.

One of the standout features of our design was the use of flexible furniture, specifically foam blocks for sitting and building, which allowed for easy reconfiguration of the space depending on the needs of the workshop or activity being conducted. The mobile art carts that contained all the necessary tools and materials for running workshops were also a brilliant addition to the space.

Overall, our design was innovative, functional, and flexible, allowing the space to be used in various ways. While the entire project was never realized, several parts of your design, including the foam furniture and mobile art carts, were implemented and continue to be used today.
