Design with Children
A Nursery Class Co-Create its Drama Corner
The drama corner project was an exciting and empowering experience for children aged 3-4. The project was designed to give the children a voice in the design and creation of their learning spaces and encourage their creativity and imagination.
The project started with discussions between the children and their teacher, where the children were encouraged to share their ideas and visions for what they wanted their drama corner to look like. The children then created drawings of their ideal drama corner, which the teacher collected.
The project's next step involved the teacher taking the children's drawings and projecting them onto the wall. Using these projected images, the teacher painted black outlines of the children's designs onto the wall.
The following day, the children arrived to find their drawings larger than life on the wall. They were then allowed to work in small groups with the teacher, using small samples of wall paint in various colours to paint their designs onto the wall.
The project was about creating a beautiful drama corner and giving the children ownership of their learning spaces. By involving them in the design and creation process, the children were empowered to take ownership of their learning spaces and to express their creativity and imagination. The project also fostered collaboration and teamwork as the children collaborated to bring their ideas to life.
Overall, the drama corner project was a fantastic way to encourage children's creativity, imagination, and sense of ownership over their learning spaces. It was an excellent opportunity for the children to express themselves and collaborate with their peers and an excellent example of how children can be empowered to take control of their learning.
